FUNCTIONAL RANGE CONDITIONING (FRC)® + KINSTRETCH®

Whether you are training to improve your athletic performance or are looking to prepare your body for the demands of everyday life, my goal is to teach you how to move safely, efficiently, and effectively. That is why I am integrating the principles of Functional Range Conditioning® and Kinstretch® into both my Pilates and Personal Training sessions. FRC® is a comprehensive joint training system based in scientific principles and research. Its three main goals are to develop Mobility, Joint Strength, and Body Control, which leads to well-functioning and resilient joints, a prerequisite to any type of movement and exercise.

I offer one-on-one FRC® sessions, and I  teach weekly Kinstretch® classes based on the FRC® principles. Classes are open to people of all skill levels and movement backgrounds. Positions and stretching procedures can be progressed and regressed to fit each individual's capabilities and comfort level. To learn more about FRC® and Kinstretch® continue reading below. What is Kinstretch®?

By definition, Kinstretch® is a movement enhancement system that develops maximum body control, flexibility, and usable ranges of motion.

Kinstretch® is based on the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)® methods developed by Dr. Andreo Spina. Rooted in scientifically proven principles, this joint conditioning program uses a series of stretching techniques in various base positions to improve the health and durability of the joints, as well as overall movement quality. The goal of Kinstretch® is to enhance the capacity of the joints and surrounding tissue in order to ready the body for athletic performance and the demands of everyday life, while decreasing the risk injury.

Each class starts out with Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) to assess the movement quality of any given joint and to discover possible limitations. At the same time, the use of CARs helps maintain the range of motion of the joints and contributes to their health and longevity. This is followed by stretching procedures that are designed to explore and open up new ranges of motion. Finally, the body is taught how to gain control over these newly acquired ranges, which then results in new, usable ranges of motion as opposed to passive ones.

Other aspects of Kinstretch® include the Law of Irradiation to teach the body how to master tension in order to train the nervous system and thus master range; Maximal Expansive Breathing (MEB) to increase the capacity of the diaphragm; and Isometric Ramping on the ball, a technique used to teach a muscle how to let go by training it to contract and release in a controlled manner in combination with specific breathing patterns.

What is Functional Range Conditioning®?

Developed by world-renowned musculoskeletal expert Dr. Andreo Spina, Functional Range Conditioning® is a comprehensive joint training system based in scientific principals and research. There are 3 main goals when training using the FRC® system, and all are closely interrelated and acquired simultaneously:

Mobility Development: Mobility refers to the amount of active, usable motion that one possesses. The more mobile a person is, the more they are able to maximize their movement potential safely, efficiently, and effectively.

Joint Strength: While improving mobility and movement potential, the FRC® system also acts to ‘bullet proof’ (or safeguard) the joints so that movement can be executed safely.

Body Control: Training with FRC® improves the function of the nervous system. This leads to a reduction of pain and injury, improved joint health and longevity, as well as an increased ability to move freely and easily.
